Advancing American Exceptionalism

America is at its best when government remembers its role: to protect liberty, uphold the Constitution, and get out of the way of hardworking citizens. That belief is the foundation of the Lafayette Partnership, an organization advancing the principles of American exceptionalism, rooted in constitutional governance emphasizing individual rights and freedom.

The Lafayette Partnership exists for a clear purpose: to champion the idea that America’s success comes from its people, not from Washington bureaucrats. Our mission reflects a deep commitment to the values that built this country: independence, personal responsibility, free enterprise, and limited government.

In today’s policy environment, those principles are more important than ever. That’s why the Lafayette Partnership is proud to support key priorities that strengthen the economy and restore opportunity, including backing the One Big Beautiful Bill and cutting unnecessary red tape.

This past month’s jobs report delivered strong evidence that limited government works. In January, the economy gained 130,000 jobs, far exceeding expectations of just 55,000. The Working Families Tax Cut is expected to expand on those numbers further by securing or creating up to 7.4 million jobs over the next four years.

Even more encouraging, the unemployment rate fell to 4.3%, beating projections, while average hourly earnings rose 0.4% over the month and are now up 3.7% over the past year. Productivity also surged from 3.3% to 4.9%, the fastest pace in two years.

In the effort to fight against the forces of big government, federal employment dropped by 327,000 since its peak in October 2024. As government shrinks, the private sector expands.

The economy has also seen a steady drop in prices from Biden-era inflation. While gas hit a record peak of $4.93 a gallon in June 2022, today’s averages are below $3.00, their lowest since 2020. National median rent has fallen a steady five months in a row, and mortgage affordability has now reached a four-year high. The cost of eggs, chicken, grain products, milk, and toiletries have all dropped since last year. The American dream is becoming attainable yet again.

All of this was required to reverse the failures of the Biden labor market, which Americans are learning were far weaker than was known. The numbers are revealing as job growth over Biden’s final two years was overstated by 1.9 million jobs. Real progress is being made.

The Lafayette Partnership is here to keep that momentum going. When America chooses freedom, Americans choose growth.
